Hi Rachna,
Welcome to a SPECIAL VIDEO from the Asperger's Syndrome Newsletter.
======================= Today's Topic ==========================
Why Do People With AS Struggle with Anxiety and Depression?
================================================================
Many of those with Aspergers suffer from anxiety. They worry about
thing -- all kinds of things -- constantly. Something always seems
to be on their mind. This constant worry can lead to sever
depression.
I have just created a new video to explain and address the issues
that those with Aspergers must deal with, day-to-day, as they
struggle with the challenges of Aspergers.
I think you will find this video critically important in
understanding what your loved ones with Aspergers suffer with and
why so many become isolated and depressed.
Click on this link or paste it into your browser to view this video
which I have hosted on YouTube.

F. I. E. Basic Level 1 Workshop
Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment
for Young Children: I. E. Basic Level 1
A Five-Day Intensive Workshop
by Prof. Louis H. Falik,
Certified Trainer, International Centre for the Enhancement of Learning Potential (ICELP), Jerusalem.
THE FEUERSTEIN INSTRUMENTAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM [FIE] is based on the work of internationally renowned Israeli Psychologist Prof. Reuven Feuerstein, whose work with children affected by the Holocaust resulted in the setting up of the International Centre for the Enhancement of the Learning Potential. IE is an intervention program designed to modify the cognitive structure of students, in classrooms and individually with diverse populations ranging from low functioning performers to gifted underachievers, adult populations in industrial settings and continuing education. The program aims at correcting deficient cognitive functions and enhancing the individual’s capacity to learn more effectively from direct exposure in formal as well as informal learning situations.
Instrumental Enrichment for Young Children (IE-BASIC I) introduces a series of mostly non-verbal instruments to be used with younger children or children with low performance level, including:
ü Program goals and methods of application.
ü Ways of attending to the development of basic cognitive functions, verbal and conceptual tools, spatial and temporal concepts and representational activities.
ü Methods of promoting reflective thinking and internal motivation, and the development of the child’s feeling as a generator of information rather than a passive reproducer of information;
ü Practice in new instruments adapted to the early stages of child development.

MISHACON 2009
From the desk of the Organizing Secretary
Dear Colleagues & Friends,
The Organizing Committee of MISHACON 2009 had to postpone the proposed event of 12th and 13th Sept
in view of Swine Flu epidemic in Pune. Now situation seems to be improved. We have also learnt that our own body resistance is more important and makes us win over any situation. We the organizing committee members strongly feel that whether swine flu, or rains, or recession the show must go on.
The dates are finalized to 24th and 25th of October2009.
MISHACON is committed to open new avenues for continuing education to our members. This year the organizing committee has selected futuristic issues. Stem Cell therapy, applied behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Genetics are the areas of interest to our members.
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the science of applying experimentally derived principles of behavior to improve socially significant behavior. ABA takes what we know about behavior and uses it to bring about positive change in the behaviour (Applied). Behaviors are defined in observable and measurable terms in order to assess change over time (Behavior). The behavior is analyzed within the environment to determine what factors are influencing the behavior (Analysis). Applied behavior analysis contributes to a full range of areas and autism is one among them. Though it is not a new method, a lot of work is going on ABA in improving lives of individuals with autism. Smita Awasthi will be highlighting
the applications of ABA for children with autism.
Study of Voice culture will be another new horizon for our members. The process of bringing the voice under control is known as voice culture, which involves traditional and scientific methods to improve the quality of voice. Effective control of breath, flexible speech organs, adjustments of resonators, wider range, mental perception, and so on, are the features by which the voice can be trained or control. Every individual is unique, so is every voice. Though there are individual limitations differing from person to person, it is very important to note that this is the only instrument, which can be cultivated, improved and cultured, by variation of pitch, intensity and timbre (tonal quality). The Speech - language Pathologists will have new avenue to develop the knowledge and skills to expand their practice scope. The veteran Dr. Ashok Ranade will be enlightening us.
MISHACON is giving an opportunity to learn these new skills.
The most important of all RCI has given us CRE credit for
MISHACON 2009.

Fees
Tools of the Trade: Rs 7500/- (Inclusive of manual & stationery)
Rs 5500/- for old students
UNDERLYING PRINCIPLES
This workshop is part of a series from 3-in-One Concepts, USA.
Even before birth, and throughout our lives, we are exposed to feelings, emotions and situations, which form the basis for our belief systems. When the emotions and situations experienced are negative, they create tremendous negative stress. Muscle-testing is used to access the information locked in cellular memory.
This negative stress interferes with our ability to respond appropriately to present-time situations, and our performance suffers. Coming into contact with the cause of yesterday’s fears with present time awareness, presents us with the opportunity to release the stress of old negative emotions, feelings and beliefs and opens doors to endless possibilities for positive change through precision. Participants will receive certification from 3-in-One Concepts on completion of each programme.
BRAIN GYM & BEYOND
21st October to 25th October 2009, 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
Learn body co-ordination exercises that help co-ordinate left and right brain and thus make learning stress free. Doing these exercises also helps in concentration in all aspects of a student’s life from sports to classroom activities; and helps build a child’s self-esteem, confidence and social integration skills.
Edu-K’s Brain Gym
Brain Gym, has been developed by Paul Dennison, a professional educator and a pioneer in the field of applied brain research. He is the author of the system of mind-body integration known as Educational Kinesiology, of which Brain Gym is the first step. It enables a student or an adult to integrate experience with the whole brain, and thus helps increase the performance of the brain. By understanding how the brain works, we can maximize the innate potential of the brain.
Fees Rs. 5500/- (including manuals)
Discounts for those registering for more than one workshop:
Tools of the Trade + Brain Gym: Rs 7500/- + Rs. 4000/- = Rs 11,500/-
Tools of the Trade + Brain Gym: Rs 5500/- + Rs. 4000/- = Rs 9,500/- (for old students)
Fees are inclusive of tea, coffee & biscuits. Lunch to be carried by the participants.
