Social skills training

Hope you all are doing good.

As you all know, Aspire Education Services provides lot of services for our children.

One of our program is the Social Skills program.

Children learn social skills by taking part in games and other group activities. Social skills are part of our life and it is very important to teach our children these skills.

Dr. Brenda Smith who is an associate professor at the university of Kansas,calls this as Hidden Curriculum. The hidden curriculum refers to the set of rules that everyone knows, but no one has been directly taught. These unwritten social rules need to be taught to our children and we need to make our children understand these rules.

How is this done: A small group of 3 to 4 children who may share a set of social goals are grouped together. They learn to interact with each other and learn social skills.

The social goals for each child is set and progress is monitored by data. As the child masters each goal we add on more social goals that are appropriate for the child.

Social skills goals can be as simple as greetings and farewells to having a conversation.

We are starting the Social skills group from the 10th of July at Lakshya-Ghakopar and will be conducted every saturday. There will be 2 batches 10 to 12 and 1 to 4 Pm.

Only 4 children in a batch. The fees would be Rs. 500 for a 2 hours session.

The Schedule will be as follows:

10.00 to 10. 30 PlayGreetings, Turn taking, waiting, getting attention, sharing etc.

10:30 to 11.00Circle timeHello to all friends and staff, taking up a role ( EX. Paper passer, star in charge etc)Understand the rules. Expressing and understanding emotions.

11.00 to 11.30Games
Games like: duck Duck Goose, freeze dance, Red Rover, musical chair etc. understand/follow the rules.
Movement songs (turn taking)
11.30 to 11.45Group activity: Art/ fine motor, puzzles, File folders etc. Sharing, turn taking, waiting, getting attention.

11.45 to 11.55Good bye time.Sharing info about the day. Farewell.


Skills targeted will be individualized.
Some of the skills targeted are pre-requisite for learning further skills.
Communication skills will be automatically addressed as it is very important for social interactions though may not be mentioned in the individual goal for the child.
The children also learn skills like: following directions/ compliance, attending skills,imitation skills etc.
